When you are used to buying kit cars and then building them yourself, replacing a broken suspension arm is child's play but many modelers choose ready-made RTR cars and are not so not familiar with the mechanics.
Breaking a suspension arm happens relatively frequently (especially on off-road cars) and it can make beginners feel like their car is destroyed. However, repairing this part is easy and inexpensive. The method we are going to describe is suitable for replacing a suspension arm but it can also be used to locate and replace other damaged parts .
Step 1: Prepare the car
Remove the bodywork and tires and set them aside. Once the tires are removed, replace the lug nuts on the axle so you don't lose them.
2nd step: Clean and identify the broken part
Clean your car to remove debris and bulk dust to have a clear view of your chassis. Then inspect the parts of your car to identify those that are damaged. If you need to disassemble certain parts, use a box so as not to lose your screws. We assume here that this is the suspension arm.
Step 3: Remove the damaged arm
Remove the few screws or clips to disassemble the suspension arm . If your car has an assembly manual, you can refer to it. Take the opportunity to check that the shock absorber axle is not twisted or bent by rolling it on the table because a collision capable of damaging the suspension arm can also cause the rod to bend.
Step 4: Install the new arm
To find the replacement arm for your car, look for the part number in the " Exploded View " manual supplied with your vehicle then use our search engine to find it. Then install the new arm, reversing the disassembly steps. Check that the new arm is functioning properly.
