For the 10th generation of the Ford F-150, engineering began in 1991 with the project code named PN-96. The first redesign since 1980, Ford focused on a sleeker, softer design, perhaps envisioning the future when trucks would make their way into more and more homes as family vehicles . The new generation lasted from 1997 to 2004, undergoing only minor changes in aesthetics and interior underpinnings to accommodate extended and future crew cab models. The new Ford moved as sales increased and, during this platform period, celebrated 100 years of trucks.
