Multifunctional LiPo chargers
In model making, LiPo batteries are the most common. These batteries offer excellent performance and allow you to store the energy your electric vehicle needs. To recharge your batteries, it is important to have a suitable charger specially designed to charge this type of battery safely. If you have several different batteries, it may also be interesting to look at multifunctional chargers .
Recharge your lipo batteries
LiPo batteries , for Lithium-Polymer, are the most common batteries in model making. They power the electric motor of your radio-controlled cars. The performance of these batteries is excellent. However, it is essential to use them correctly to avoid the risk of injury or fire. To charge them, it is therefore essential to use a suitable charger, specially designed for this type of battery. At RC Team, we offer several chargers that are specifically dedicated to recharging LiPo batteries . This allows you to recharge your batteries safely. We also offer multifunction chargers that allow you to charge different battery models. These models also offer interesting modes such as, for example, the possibility of discharging your batteries to an ideal level to store them safely (i.e. between 30 and 40% of their maximum capacity).
Key information to know
To choose a charger , you must ensure that it is compatible with your batteries. A LiPo charger allows you to charge LiPo batteries. The compatibility of the charger with the chemistry of your batteries must be clearly mentioned on the device or in the instructions. But there are also some key information to pay attention to. First, the voltage . The charger should not apply a voltage higher than your battery can withstand. So a 7.4V battery should not be charged with a voltage higher than 7.4V. Next, you need to pay attention to the number of cells in your battery. This information corresponds to the number followed by an “S”. For example, a 3S battery contains three cells. It is necessary that the charger is compatible in order to guarantee cell balancing during charging. Amperage, expressed in Ah (ampere-hour) or mAh (milliampere-hour) is a unit of measurement which expresses the charging current that your battery can withstand. It is important not to charge a battery beyond this recommended value as this could damage the battery's performance or cause overheating.
Some precautions to apply
LiPo batteries are not dangerous, but if used incorrectly, the risks are serious. A poorly used LiPo battery can swell, leak gas, catch fire or even explode! It is therefore essential to handle these batteries with care. Here is a list of precautions to follow when recharging your LiPo batteries:
- Use a suitable charger.
- When charging, place the battery in a fire-resistant safety bag (flame retardant).
- Charge your batteries outside or in a suitable, well-ventilated room (a garage for example)
- Do not leave your batteries unattended while charging.
- Do not take the risk of charging a damaged or swollen battery.
If you must dispose of LiPo batteries, do not throw them in the trash. It is best to drop them off at a recycling center or a suitable collection point.
