Rechargeable batteries for remote control cars
Electric remote controlled cars are becoming more and more popular with RC model enthusiasts. It must be said that with their performance and ease of use, they guarantee real sensations on the track or off-road! But to be at peak performance, radio-controlled vehicles must use rechargeable batteries .
As a specialist in RC modeling, RC Team offers a wide range of batteries for electric vehicles. Our team has selected the biggest brands, such as T2M , Spektrum or Dynamite ...
Have you assembled your electric RC car as a kit? Do you want to replace a worn out battery or buy a replacement battery ? Consult the battery buying guide developed by RC Team!
Which battery for my radio-controlled car?
Before purchasing a new battery , make sure it is compatible with your RC vehicle . Power, but also dimensions and type of connector may vary from one model to another.
Furthermore, a battery intended for a buggy will not necessarily have the same characteristics as a track model . Do you go off-road ? Be careful to choose a waterproof battery ...
Generally speaking, there are two main types of rechargeable batteries for electric RC cars . Lipo batteries and Nimh batteries . They each have their characteristics, advantages and disadvantages. It's up to you to choose, based on your expectations and your modeling practice.
Lipo battery: lithium polymer
Extremely popular, Lipo batteries are THE big trend in RC modeling. Light and compact, they are also very efficient. These latest generation rechargeable batteries are characterized by high power and long autonomy .
Be careful though! Lipo batteries are not for everyone's hands... Fragile, they require rigorous maintenance and must be handled with care. Thus, they are ideal for experienced pilots, or very careful beginners (who may, however, be surprised by the power delivered).
On the power side, a Lipo battery cell corresponds to 3.7 V. The more cells a battery contains, the more it increases its power. On the RC Team online store, you will find Lipo batteries from 1 to 6 cells , or from 3.7 V to 22.2 V. Enough to progress in your practice of RC modeling!
RC Nimh battery: nickel metal hybrid
Older, Nimh rechargeable batteries are recommended for children, young RC pilots or beginners . Indeed, if their performance is less impressive than Lipo batteries, they can deliver enough power to experience your first driving sensations!
With RC Nimh batteries , there is no risk of fire as can be the case with a poorly used Lipo battery! However, they are heavier than their lithium counterparts.
Why is my remote control car battery no longer working?
The battery in your RC car no longer works? Like all equipment, rechargeable batteries wear out over time and lose their capacity. Rigorous maintenance can extend their lifespan , but replacement may prove inevitable, especially in the event of intense use!
In other cases the battery may be damaged, or have been deteriorated by adverse conditions, such as exposure to water.
To prevent your battery from being overcharged, be sure to respect the voltage and exact full charge time. And don't turn off your charger before the battery is fully charged!
